Microsoft's Gates confirms no AMD Windows 64 until Q4
BILL GATES IS planning on showing off his soon-to-be new Windows products at the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC), which starts in Seattle today. The conference is said to highlight new hardware, software and "industry opportunities" for the Windows platform.
Gates will be unveiling what Microsofts labels the future of Windows computing, alongside a Windows Home Concept PC which was developed with HPs help. The Windows Home Concept is a prototype featuring next gen hardware and software, apparently designed to deliver the "ultimate" entertainment and communication experience. Hmm, ok.

ATi's X800 Pulls Off Another Coup in the Graphics Performance War
In our opinion, the most impressive thing about this card is how little effort ATi needed to reach the performance we saw here. The power consumption of the X800 XT is about the same as that of its predecessors in 3D applications. Additionally, the cards require only one auxiliary power connector and don't need an especially potent power supply like the GeForce 6800 Ultra does. Even the cooler has shrunk a bit, reducing the card's overall weight and ensuring that it would fit even into a mini-ITX case.

Colin McRae 2005: Screens n Details
Codemasters has announced the next incarnation of its world-beating rally franchise, Colin McRae Rally 2005. The game will be shown for the first time in all its glory at the E3 expo in mid-May.
The first thing worthy of note is the change in naming convention for the game. Previously we've had 2.0, 3, and 04. This time, however, it's clear that Codemasters intends to take an EA-style annual approach to releasing updates. Which, as far as we're concerned, is no bad thing...
Secondly, McRae 2005 will feature an online mode for the first time, on both Xbox and PS2. Eight players will be able to take each other on at once in head-to-head rally races. We don't know any more than that at this stage, although some form of time-trial based competition would befit the game well too.
Finally - and most importantly - there will be a spanking new career mode, which Codies describes as "the steering-wheel-gripping heart" of the game. Players will race through 20 different rally classes (such as Challenges, Cups, SuperCups, Shields and Championships), including more than 300 stages in all, in a much expanded lineup of vehicles. Expect to throw up dirt in four-wheel drive, two-wheel drive, four-wheel classics, super two-wheel, rear wheel, distinctive and 4x4 classics.
Other touted improvements include upped graphical splendor (trees will drop leaves if you crash into them, apparently), new individual damage models for every car, a new "bonnet-cam" and an improved chase-cam.

Gearbox Software Announces Halo CE
The developer of the PC version of Halo is about to release some massive updates for the game -- including editing tools, technical updates, and more.
There are two parts to the new software. One part is a new executable and set of data called "Halo Custom Edition" (haloCE.exe) which will reside in its own separate directory. This new executable includes lots of new features, improvements, and capabilities. Things included in the new executable are "Fast Shaders" (improves performance up to 60% on pixel shader hardware), improved network code (reduces the incidence of player "warping"), and lots of new features that provide options for players to improve their multiplayer games.
Perhaps, most importantly, however, the new executable allows end users to play a potentially endless volume of new content created with the Halo Editing Kit. Halo Custom Edition (HaloCE.exe) and the supporting data is about 200mb and the HEK is about 250mb.

Hooray for a title that is not only not delayed, but released ahead of expectation.

>Fixed flying Leviathan exploit where Leviathan can be based on another vehicle.
>Fixed Leviathan pushing exploits by limiting the Leviathans max speed.
>Fixed Tank pushing exploits by limiting max speed unless falling.

Atari Announces Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3
Atari Europe has announced the next installment in the Budokai series, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3. Developed by Dimps, who made the previous Budokai, the game promises to feature similar game mechanics to the other installments in the series.
"Right from the start, our main aim was to create a faithful Dragon Ball Z video game experience," said Martin Spiess, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Atari Europe. "By working closely with Bandai throughout and hitting the high standards the franchise demands, we have seen the fan base grow beyond the hardcore Dragon Ball Z audience. With an incredibly strong 2004 product lineup on the way, it's a trend that looks set to continue."
"Atari's work to date has established Dragon Ball Z as a very significant franchise within the interactive entertainment industry. What most of our fans want are games that not only satisfy their devotion to the Dragon Ball Z universe, but also offer a great gameplay experience in their own right," said Naoki Eguchi of Bandai Europe. "Atari's skills in these areas means it is uniquely placed as a company to bring these elements together, and as a result continues to release fantastic DBZ games."
